The lloyd’s lawn tennis club was established over 60 years ago by the late howard pountney. Historically the club competed in the insurance tennis leagues and cup, but sadly these have all but disappeared mainly due to the sale of all the sports grounds.
The mainstay of the club has been the prestige fixtures held against traditional city and other venerable institutions. These include the Stock Exchange, Bank of England, House of Lords/ Commons, RAF, Public Schools Old Boys and the Law Society. Recent new fixtures set up include the Queens Club, Met Police, RAC Epsom, St Bart’s Hospital, Daily Express, and Eton.
The Men’s team recently won the 2016 Corporate Tennis Competition and will be defending this and also seeking to win the Mixed Competition as well in 2017. Adam and Peter Webb, and Matt Simson are currently working on adding to the fixture list, including some ladies and mixed matches. More details to follow. The club also used to hold regular overseas tours, past trips including Europe, USA, Bermuda, South Africa, Australasia and the Far East. The club is currently investigating the possibility of a short European tour/arranging matches against Insurance related entities in Europe and a longer one further afield. More details to follow.
The club will be hosting a summer drinks evening and end of season later in the year. Dates are still to be confirmed, with more details to follow.
For membership details and further information, please contact either Matt, Adam, Peter, or Ceara.
