The lloyd’s football club has been organised as a ‘friendly’ based club preferring to promote and enhance the dual interests of the lloyd’s market, the corinthian principles of fair play and the “beautiful game” rather than competitive competition.
The team has always been a representative side made up of employees of both underwriting organisations and broking houses. Although, as the Lloyd’s and London Market’s have developed, the current team now comprises of employees from organisations operating in every major specialty including underwriting, broking, claims, regulatory and legal.
The Club have long standing and historical playing relationships with a variety of sides such as the Ipswich Town, Royal Marines, Sandhurst Military Academy, Oxford, and Cambridge, London and Cardiff Universities and representative’s teams from the various leagues around the South East of England.
The Club has a very active social scene with the annual charity dinner as the cornerstone of this programme. The dinner has been in place for the last thirteen years and attendance is now 500 plus at the event. We also organise a 5 a side competition in memory of Matthew Harding our former Chairman.
The team has undergone a change in fortune over the last decade as the current committee took what was essentially a shell of a club in the early nineties and made it solvent, relevant, given it a full fixture list and full roster of good young players, established a social programme and created a touring team.
